In a bold move to prepare Nigerian youth for the rapidly evolving industrial landscape, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced the launch of a comprehensive digitalization training programme that will benefit 3,700 young Nigerians nationwide.

Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, General Manager of Corporate Communications at NCDMB, revealed that the initiative, branded the NCDMB Digitalization Initiative (NDI), aims to equip participants with essential skills to thrive in the new era of technological transformation.

Speaking on the programme, Executive Secretary Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe highlighted that the oil and gas sector and its linked industries are increasingly adopting advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Robotics, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Drones, and Blockchain-based data exchange.

“The shift toward digital operations enhances productivity, reduces costs, supports low-carbon initiatives, and allows for smart facility management and automation of business processes,” Engr. Ogbe said. “Through this initiative, NCDMB reaffirms its commitment to equipping Nigeria’s oil and gas supply chain to remain competitive and relevant in the emerging global energy landscape.”

Dr. Abdulmalik Halilu, Director of Corporate Services at NCDMB, emphasized that the initiative is strategically designed to empower Nigerians, particularly youths under the age of 35, to take on pivotal roles within the oil and gas sector. “The Digitalization Initiative targets high-impact areas that build digital expertise, generate tangible value, and drive sustainable growth across the nation,” he noted.

The programme will roll out over the next three years, reaching participants from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, offering hands-on exposure to digital tools and the development of market-relevant solutions.

A pilot phase will see 100 candidates selected via the NOGIC JQS portal, the official Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry human and material capacity repository. Beneficiaries will undergo pre-selection tests conducted across the six geopolitical zones as follows:

  • South East – Umuahia: September 30
  • South South – Warri: October 3
  • South West – Lagos: October 6
  • North East – Kaduna: October 6
  • North Central – Minna: October 9
  • North West – Taraba: October 9

This marks the beginning of a transformative journey aimed at preparing Nigeria’s youth for the digital revolution, positioning them to contribute meaningfully to a modernized and technology-driven oil and gas sector.

NCDMB launches the Digitalization Initiative to train 3,700 Nigerian youths in AI, Big Data, Cybersecurity, and more, preparing them for the future of the oil and gas industry.
