Nigeria reaffirmed its position as a gateway for global investment in Africa’s energy sector during the ongoing African Energy Week (AEW) in Cape Town. At the center of this narrative is the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited, whose Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, headlined the highly anticipated “Invest in Nigeria Roundtable” on Wednesday morning.

The session, which ran from 10:10 to 11:00 a.m., served as a powerful reminder that Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, is actively charting a course toward becoming the continent’s foremost investment hub.

NLNG: A Beacon of Opportunity

Dr. Mshelbila used the roundtable to reflect on NLNG’s remarkable journey from inception to becoming one of Africa’s flagship energy companies. Established to harness Nigeria’s vast natural gas reserves, NLNG has transformed into a success story, delivering value through exports, boosting domestic energy supply, and strengthening Nigeria’s global standing in the liquefied natural gas market.

“NLNG represents what is possible when vision, governance, and investment intersect,” Dr. Mshelbila emphasized. “Our story is not just about LNG—it is about creating opportunities, driving industrialization, and contributing meaningfully to the prosperity of Nigeria and Africa.”

Nigeria’s Call to Global Investors

The African Energy Week platform brought together policymakers, financiers, and industry leaders eager to explore opportunities in Nigeria’s energy value chain. Discussions at the roundtable ranged from LNG expansion projects and infrastructure investment to opportunities in renewables and gas-to-power solutions.

Nigeria’s message was clear: reforms, regulatory transparency, and renewed investor confidence have laid the foundation for sustainable partnerships. With over 200 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves, the country’s energy potential remains unmatched on the continent.

Investing in the Future

The reflection on Nigeria’s energy trajectory at AEW 2025 also pointed to broader economic aspirations. Beyond being a global LNG supplier, Nigeria is positioning itself as a regional energy hub, with NLNG at the center of this transformation.

Participants left the session with a reinforced belief that Nigeria is not only open for investment but also committed to building lasting partnerships that will deliver shared prosperity.

A Reflection on Progress

Looking back, the NLNG story symbolizes Nigeria’s resilience and potential. What began as a bold vision has matured into a proven model for turning natural resources into wealth creation, capacity building, and sustainable development.

As AEW 2025 continues, Nigeria’s presence—anchored by NLNG—remains a reflection of the nation’s determination to match opportunity with innovation. The energy transition may be reshaping global priorities, but for Nigeria, the path is clear: attract investment, unlock value, and secure a future where its people and partners thrive.
