The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has officially launched “Operation Go Cashless” at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, marking another major step in its nationwide drive toward modernizing airport payment systems and improving service efficiency.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, represented by Ms. Joy Adebola Agunbiade, Director of Commercial and Business Development, led the launch ceremony, which underscores the Authority’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and convenience across all its operations.
The Abuja rollout follows the successful commencement of the initiative at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, last week — signaling FAAN’s readiness to implement the cashless policy across all its airports nationwide.
According to FAAN, the “Operation Go Cashless” project is designed to facilitate seamless, technology-driven payment solutions across all revenue points within Nigerian airports. The initiative eliminates cash transactions, replacing them with digital payment systems that align with the Federal Government’s financial inclusion strategy and digital economy objectives.
Ms. Agunbiade, speaking on behalf of Mrs. Kuku, emphasized that the cashless operation will not only improve efficiency but also enhance accountability and passenger experience. She urged stakeholders — including airlines, concessionaires, and service providers — to fully embrace the digital payment ecosystem for smarter and more transparent airport operations.
“This initiative represents FAAN’s vision to modernize our airports in line with global best practices. It’s about convenience, safety, and integrity in how financial transactions are conducted,” she said.
The “Operation Go Cashless” campaign will be extended to other airports across the country in the coming weeks, ensuring that all FAAN-managed facilities operate under a unified, secure, and efficient payment system.
