The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has called on young Nigerians to expand their career ambitions within the aviation industry beyond the popular dream of becoming cabin crew members.

Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s spokesperson, made this appeal in a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting that while cabin crew positions remain attractive for their glamour and travel opportunities, the aviation industry offers a much wider range of rewarding and in-demand professions.

“Many young Nigerians are investing in cabin crew training. They love the glamour of that career. It is a beautiful line of work—you get to serve people from all walks of life, and your patience and character are tested daily. But there are other careers in aviation that add just as much value and probably have more job openings,” Achimugu stated.

He encouraged aspiring aviation professionals to consider other technical and operational paths such as aircraft maintenance technicians, aerospace engineers, flight instructors, flight dispatchers, marshallers, and air traffic controllers.

According to Achimugu, these roles are crucial to the efficiency and safety of the aviation ecosystem, and skilled professionals in these areas often have access to international employment opportunities.

“If you want to go into aviation, research beyond just your passion. Look at areas where there’s scarcity—where the industry needs more operators and service providers. Fill that space and add value,” he advised.

Achimugu emphasized that aviation remains one of the most satisfying industries, with each professional role contributing to the seamless functioning of air transport systems. He urged young Nigerians to start their training early and build competencies that will position them for global relevance.

NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu has urged Nigerian youths to explore technical and operational careers in aviation beyond cabin crew roles, citing broader opportunities and global demand.
