The Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, in collaboration with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has announced an interactive virtual session to engage Nigerians abroad on the impact and implications of the new tax reform laws recently enacted by the Federal Government.

The landmark dialogue, scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025, at 4:00 PM Nigeria Time, aims to clarify key aspects of the new tax framework, address public misconceptions, and ensure Nigerians in the diaspora are fully informed about their obligations and rights under the evolving fiscal landscape.

According to the Committee’s Chairman, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, the session will provide a platform for open discussion and practical guidance on how the reforms affect income, remittances, business ownership, and investment opportunities for Nigerians living abroad.

“The new tax reforms are designed to make Nigeria’s fiscal system fairer, simpler, and more inclusive. It is essential that Nigerians in the diaspora—who contribute immensely to the economy through remittances and investments—understand the policies and how they benefit from them,” Oyedele stated.

He emphasized that the engagement reflects the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and partnership with the diaspora community in shaping sustainable economic reforms. The initiative also supports President Bola Tinubu’s broader fiscal agenda of improving tax efficiency without imposing additional burdens on citizens.

The committee noted that the dialogue will offer participants a chance to interact directly with fiscal policy experts, clarify grey areas, and share feedback that could inform future implementation strategies.

Interested participants are encouraged to register via the official link: https://forms.gle/gnad3z5Wf7JjcamA8 or by scanning the QR code shared on the committee’s verified communication channels.

The session is part of ongoing national efforts to align Nigeria’s fiscal framework with international best practices, boost investor confidence, and strengthen the country’s position as an emerging economic hub in Africa.

Background:
The Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee was inaugurated to review Nigeria’s complex tax structure, streamline revenue collection processes, and recommend strategies to improve fiscal transparency. Since its formation, the committee has engaged multiple stakeholders, including business leaders, policymakers, and civil society groups, to ensure an inclusive approach to tax reform.

For Nigerians in the diaspora—whose remittances reached over $20 billion annually, according to the World Bank—the new laws may reshape how income and investments are declared, while also providing incentives for formal remittance channels and local reinvestment.

As global economies increasingly depend on diaspora engagement for national development, this initiative highlights Nigeria’s recognition of its citizens abroad as key partners in driving inclusive economic growth.

The Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, in partnership with NiDCOM, will host a virtual dialogue on October 10, 2025, to engage Nigerians in the diaspora on the impact, benefits, and obligations under the country’s new tax reform laws.
