The Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area in Lagos State, Mrs Adetola Abubakar, has launched Project S.H.E., an initiative dedicated to promoting the Safety, Hygiene, and Education of the girl child within the community.

In a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Saturday, signed by the Office of the Executive Chairman, Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area, the event was described as a significant milestone in advancing gender inclusivity and social responsibility in the LCDA.

The official flag-off ceremony, held on Friday at the LCDA Secretariat Multipurpose Hall, marked another bold step by the council in promoting menstrual hygiene, self-confidence, and equal educational opportunities for young girls in Agboyi-Ketu.

Speaking at the event,  Abubakar reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to empowering young girls and building a society that values inclusion, education, and dignity.

“Project S.H.E. represents our promise to create an enabling environment where every girl can thrive, learn, and lead with dignity,” she said.

As part of efforts to strengthen youth development and gender equality within the community, the council has continued to implement programmes focused on empowerment, education, and social welfare.

“By prioritising safety, hygiene, and education, we are equipping our girls to build a brighter and more confident future.”The new initiative, according to the chairman, ensures that every girl in Agboyi-Ketu has access to essential resources and opportunities for growth.

The event drew participation from students, parents, educators, women’s groups, and community leaders, who commended the initiative as a forward-looking move towards fostering inclusion and equity.

Project S.H.E. forms part of Hon. Abubakar’s people-centred governance agenda, designed to enhance social welfare, youth development, and community growth across the LCDA.

September 20, 2025, that Abubakar distributed educational materials and financial support to pupils and residents across the LCDA to mark the start of the new academic session.

According to that report, hundreds of pupils benefited from the initiative, which was held at the council secretariat, receiving back-to-school items such as exercise books and stationery. Parents and guardians also received financial assistance to ease the burden of school-related expenses.

Speaking at the event, Abubakar said the intervention reflected her administration’s commitment to promoting access to quality education and reducing the financial strain on families.

“We recognise the challenges many parents face at the beginning of every academic year,” she said. “This initiative is to ensure that no child in Agboyi-Ketu is left behind because of a lack of learning materials or financial constraints.”

Similarly,  August 21, 2025, reported that the chairman presented 300 free General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms to school leavers within the council area, a gesture lauded by community stakeholders as a strong investment in youth empowerment and education.
