The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has once again reiterated its unwavering commitment to strengthening downstream infrastructure and advancing sustainable collaboration within Nigeria’s energy industry.

This commitment was reaffirmed by the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, who was represented by the Executive Vice President, Downstream, Dr. Mumuni Dagazau, at the opening ceremony of the 2025 OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week, held in Lagos on Monday.

Speaking on behalf of the GCEO, Dagazau said the company remains focused on developing new downstream infrastructure while revamping existing assets across the nation to drive operational efficiency, enhance competition, and deepen collaboration across the energy value chain.

Delivering the keynote address on the conference theme, “Energy Sustainability: Beyond Boundaries & Competition,”  Ojulari stated that the future of the energy sector lies not in competition alone, but in the collective efforts of industry stakeholders working towards sustainability, innovation, and resilience.

“At NNPC, we are committed to deploying additional infrastructure across the oil and gas value chain while modernizing our downstream assets nationwide,” Ojulari said. “These facilities will be open to partners seeking to store, distribute, and transport products — fostering collaboration and strategic alliances that redefine the downstream landscape.”

He explained that a combination of strategic policies, fiscal incentives, and the regulatory framework provided by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) has continued to create new opportunities for growth and investment. These, he noted, are paving the way for diversification into Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and mini-LNG projects, which align with Nigeria’s broader energy transition goals.

Ojulari called on industry leaders, regulators, and investors at the OTL Africa Week to leverage collaboration and innovation in building sustainable energy systems that balance profitability with environmental responsibility.

“We must work together to redefine energy systems in ways that are both sustainable and economically viable,” he said. “This requires cross-sector partnerships, new technologies, and business models that support decarbonization while driving economic growth.”

The OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week remains Africa’s most prominent gathering for downstream and midstream stakeholders, including policymakers, operators, investors, and development partners. The 2025 edition provides a strategic platform for discussing policy directions, infrastructure development, and innovation to strengthen Africa’s energy delivery systems.

In a statement, Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd, noted that the company’s participation at OTL Africa 2025 reflects its strategic role in driving Nigeria’s energy transition and reinforcing its position as a reliable partner in national infrastructure development.

“NNPC Ltd’s ongoing investments are not only focused on physical infrastructure but also on strengthening partnerships and building the institutional capacity required for a sustainable energy future,” Odeh said. “We remain committed to transparency, operational excellence, and collaboration that drives long-term sectoral growth.”

Through its renewed infrastructure agenda and collaborative approach, NNPC Ltd continues to play a leading role in repositioning Nigeria’s downstream sector as a catalyst for economic transformation and Energy sustainability
