………Experts and practitioners to be honoured as Nigeria strengthens global PR standards
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has unveiled the inaugural Public Relations, Reputation, Ideas, Concepts, and Excellence (PRICE) Awards, a landmark initiative designed to recognise, celebrate, and elevate exceptional achievements in public relations across Nigeria. The maiden edition of the awards ceremony is slated for Sunday, 7th December 2025, at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
The PRICE Awards represent NIPR’s premier system for showcasing the finest campaigns, practitioners, and organisations shaping the public relations landscape in the country. The launch reflects the Institute’s ongoing commitment to professionalising the sector, fostering innovation, and enhancing Nigeria’s presence in the global communications ecosystem.
The awards’ conception reached a milestone in September 2025 when Dr. Ike Neliaku, President and Chairman of Council of NIPR, inaugurated a 12-member Organising Committee to deliver a world-class awards system. During the inauguration, Neliaku emphasised the committee’s responsibility, stating: “Some of you have done us proud on the international stage. Now, we are asking you to give Nigeria her own world-class public relations awards system. Engage stakeholders, sponsors, and partners to organise an event of prestige, class, and colour.”
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Israel Jaiye Opayemi, a Fellow of NIPR and Managing Director/Chief Strategist of Chain Reactions Africa, expressed the committee’s commitment to honouring local excellence. “We have been winning international awards and flying the Nigerian flag globally. Now is the time for our best practitioners to be celebrated at home, before the Nigerian public,” Opayemi said.
The Organising Committee is composed of leading public relations professionals and scholars, including Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan (Vice Chairman), Dr. Mary Ikoku, Edemekong Uyoh, Adesola Oyawoye, Odoh Diego Okenyodo, Damilola Olujide, Beatrice Okpara, Prince MG Duku, Chief Patrick Ukah, Mrs. Chidinma Awak (Secretary), and Kater Amos Foga (Assistant Secretary).
The awards will recognise excellence across strategy, creativity, innovation, and measurable impact, spanning campaigns by corporates, institutions, and individual practitioners. Emerging talents, including students and young professionals, will also be celebrated with cash prizes and plaques, reinforcing NIPR’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of public relations leaders.
Established in 1963 and chartered in 1990, NIPR is the first national public relations body in the world to be chartered. Its mandate includes registering practitioners, setting professional standards, and regulating public relations practice in Nigeria. The Institute actively promotes responsible communication management through flagship initiatives such as the National Spokespersons Summit and Nigeria Public Relations Week.
In recent years, NIPR has solidified its leadership role in professionalising the PR sector, including the official recognition of public relations as a professional managerial cadre in Nigeria in 2023. The Institute also partners with global organisations such as the African Public Relations Association (APRA) and the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management (GA). Notably, NIPR recently secured the hosting rights for the 2026 World Public Relations Forum and the APRA Annual Conference, set for 15–21 November 2026.
The PRICE Awards signal a major step in celebrating Nigeria’s homegrown PR excellence while further positioning the country on the global communications stage.
