The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced the launch of its maiden Digital Economy Awareness and Sensitization Fora, an initiative aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s transition toward a fully inclusive digital economy through innovation, infrastructure, and equitable access to technology.
Set to hold on November 13, 2025, the forum, themed “Leaving No One Behind: Digital Assets, Equity, and Empowerment,” will bring together key industry players, policymakers, innovators, academia, and development partners to explore practical pathways for bridging Nigeria’s digital divide.
According to a press statement signed by Nnenna Ukoha, Head of Public Affairs at the NCC, the sensitization fora will serve as a national platform to align digital policies with infrastructure goals, promote inclusivity, and create a more resilient and secure digital ecosystem.
“The NCC remains deeply committed to ensuring that all Nigerians, regardless of location or status, benefit from the opportunities of the digital age. Our goal is to empower citizens through equitable access, digital literacy, and innovation that strengthens the national economy,” Ukoha stated.
The sessions at the event will focus on inclusive digital policy frameworks, affordable infrastructure deployment, digital literacy and skills development, and innovation for accessibility and affordability.
With Africa’s youth population accounting for 60% of its people under the age of 25, and Nigeria contributing a significant portion of that demographic, the NCC described the country’s youth as a strategic national asset. The Commission reaffirmed its readiness to leverage this advantage by promoting digital inclusion, skills development, and entrepreneurship opportunities for young Nigerians.
In addition to strengthening digital access, the fora will spotlight data safety and cybersecurity for Nigeria’s over 140 million Internet users, reinforcing the NCC’s broader mandate to ensure a safe, innovative, and inclusive digital environment.
The Digital Economy Awareness and Sensitization Fora is a collaborative effort involving leading organizations and partners, including:
- Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF)
- National Orientation Agency (NOA)
- National Council of Women Societies (NCWS)
- Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON)
- FintechNGR
- Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)
- Terra Industries
- Association of Nigerian Inventors (ANI)
- Secondary Education Board (SEB)
- National Universities Commission (NUC)
- Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD)
- Imose Technologies
- National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)
The event will feature panel discussions, exhibitions, and demonstrations showcasing technological innovations from startups, fintech companies, students, and local inventors—reflecting the creativity and ingenuity of Nigeria’s digital landscape.
To ensure broad participation, the NCC has created an interactive livestream portal—scf.ncc.gov.ng—that will allow citizens and institutions nationwide to engage with the sessions in real-time.
By launching this platform, the NCC is reaffirming its mission to foster a digitally empowered society where innovation, equity, and inclusion drive sustainable national development.
“Digital access is not a privilege—it is a necessity for progress,” the statement emphasized. “The NCC’s commitment is to ensure that every Nigerian is part of the digital transformation shaping our nation’s future.”
With this initiative, the NCC continues to position Nigeria as a regional leader in ICT innovation and policy modernization, building a strong foundation for a digital economy that leaves no one behind.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will host its first Digital Economy Awareness and Sensitization Fora on November 13, 2025, themed “Leaving No One Behind: Digital Assets, Equity, and Empowerment,” to promote inclusive innovation, digital literacy, and equitable access across Nigeria.
