PTAD Disburses N3.9bn Arrears to 91,146 Pensioners, Reinforces Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Promise

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has successfully disbursed N3.9 billion in accumulated arrears to 91,146 eligible pensioners under the Federal Government’s Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), marking a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of retired public servants.

The announcement was made in an official statement endorsed by Olugbenga Ajayi, mnipr, Head of Corporate Communications at PTAD, who confirmed that the payments stem from the N32,000 pension increment approved earlier by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The increment forms part of the administration’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes social welfare and the prompt settlement of statutory entitlements.

Breakdown of the N3.9 Billion Arrears Payment

The payment was distributed across PTAD’s four major operational departments as follows:

  • Parastatals Pension Department:
    N1.9 billion disbursed to 59,865 pensioners
  • Civil Service Pension Department:
    N830 million released to 12,976 pensioners
  • Police Pension Department:
    N620 million paid to 9,689 retired police personnel
  • Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD):
    N551 million disbursed to 8,616 pensioners

PTAD noted that the payments were executed after a rigorous verification and reconciliation process to ensure accuracy, eliminate duplications, and guarantee that only eligible pensioners received the approved arrears.

Government Reaffirms Commitment to Welfare of Retirees

Speaking on the development, PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Tolulope A. Odunaiya, reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritizing pensioners’ welfare. She emphasized that clearing pension arrears remains central to the Tinubu administration’s drive to restore dignity, security, and financial stability to retirees who dedicated decades of service to the nation.

Odunaiya assured pensioners that PTAD will continue to strengthen transparency and accountability in pension administration and speed up ongoing efforts to settle outstanding obligations across all departments.

The disbursement, completed on 14th November 2025, has been widely welcomed by retired public servants who described it as a timely intervention amid rising economic pressures.
