The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed the safe evacuation of all passengers and crew after an aircraft with registration number 5N-BZN suffered a nose-wheel malfunction while landing at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, on Thursday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 19:10hrs, when the Lagos-Enugu bound aircraft experienced a nose-landing gear fault upon touchdown on Runway 08, leaving the aircraft immobile on the runway.

According to Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, emergency responders activated the airport’s crisis protocol immediately after the distress report was received.

“Our emergency response teams were immediately mobilised and deployed to ensure the safety of all onboard and to secure the aerodrome. Fire tenders, medical response units, and other airport emergency resources were activated as part of standard procedure,” Agbebire stated.

FAAN confirmed that all passengers and crew were safely disembarked using apron buses and escorted to the terminal building. The evacuation was completed without injuries and concluded at 19:48hrs.

In line with safety procedures, FAAN’s Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) maintained full standby while the affected aircraft and surrounding airside areas were secured.

FAAN emphasised that the safety of passengers, crew, and airport users remains its top priority and assured the public that additional information would be provided as more verified details emerge.
