Truck park operators in Onne, Rivers State, have fully endorsed the Nigerian Ports Authority’s (NPA) rollout of the Electronic Call-Up System, signalling a major step toward ending the persistent traffic gridlock that has long crippled movement around the Eastern Ports.

Industry stakeholders say the new digital system is set to restore order, enhance port efficiency and protect the growing investments in Nigeria’s trucking and logistics value chain.

Chairman of the Nigerian Port Consultative Council (NPCC), Onne Chapter, Mr. Godwin Ololuke, confirmed that the framework for the implementation of the e-call-up scheme along the Onne Port corridor has been concluded. According to him, truck park owners and the system consultant recently held a strategic engagement session with NPA management through the Port Manager, Onne, to fine-tune the final stages of deployment.

Ololuke explained that the electronic system is designed to regulate truck movement in and around the port area, guaranteeing improved safety for port users, schoolchildren and neighbouring communities who have long suffered the effects of indiscriminate parking and chaotic traffic.

“The introduction of the electronic call-up system is a major win for the entire corridor. It brings order, strengthens safety and enhances the operational environment for businesses and residents,” he said.

Truck drivers are already expressing optimism. Mr. Johnbull Igbikiowubo, a truck operator in Onne, described the initiative as “a welcome development” and emphasised that its success depends on the cooperation of all stakeholders.

“When everyone cooperates, the system will not only make our work easier but also support the nation’s economy,” he added.

Similarly, Mr. Olumide Ibitolu, an official of Waterhouses Marine and Logistics Limited, noted that the temporary disruptions observed around the port were a result of ongoing registration of trucks under the new digital framework. He expressed confidence that once full registration is completed, orderliness will return to the corridor.

With the NPA accelerating the digitalisation of port access, stakeholders believe that the e-call-up system will deliver a more predictable trucking schedule, reduce congestion and significantly boost the efficiency of cargo evacuation from Onne Port.

Onne truck park operators have endorsed the NPA’s Electronic Call-Up System aimed at ending gridlock and improving efficiency at the Eastern Ports. Stakeholders say the initiative will restore order, enhance safety and strengthen the logistics value chain.

Truck parks in Onne support NPA’s new e-call-up system to eliminate gridlock and enhance port efficiency. Stakeholders say the digital system will improve safety, streamline truck movement and boost logistics operations around the Eastern Ports.
