Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) have strengthened their long-standing partnership as both organisations move toward launching a major asset intervention programme aimed at revamping critical operational facilities across Trains 1 to 6 of the NLNG plant in Bonny Island, Rivers State.
The renewed collaboration was announced during the Nigerian Content Stakeholders Retreat hosted by NLNG at its operational base in Finima, Bonny Island. Senior executives from both organisations, including NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall, and NCDMB’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, participated in the discussions.
NLNG Unveils Accelerated Asset Intervention Programme
During the retreat, NLNG’s General Manager, Production, Nnamdi Anowi, presented the company’s comprehensive revamp initiative, the Accelerated Asset Intervention (AAI) programme, scheduled to begin in 2026.
He explained that the programme will overhaul ageing asset components across all operating Trains and Common Facilities to improve reliability, production efficiency and long-term plant performance.
According to Anowi, the AAI programme is designed to entrench predictive maintenance, deliver sustainable top-quartile operations and keep NLNG competitive as one of Nigeria’s most reliable gas producers.
“The goal is to maintain operational excellence, continue providing gas and value to the country, and secure NLNG’s position as the best-performing company in Nigeria,” he said.
NCDMB Backs NLNG, Commits to Fast-Track Approvals
Representing the Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the Director of Capacity Building, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to support the AAI programme. He emphasized that NCDMB’s mandate as an enabler of oil and gas development aligns fully with NLNG’s strategic goals.
Bamidele noted that NLNG and NCDMB have a successful history of collaboration, including the establishment of the industry’s first Service Level Agreement (SLA) between a regulator and an operator—an initiative that accelerated project approvals and improved operational efficiency.
He also highlighted NCDMB’s expedited approvals for the NLNG Train 7 Project, which enabled construction to begin in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing that similar support would be extended to the upcoming AAI programme.
Train 7, Economic Impact and Local Content Milestones Celebrated
At the Gala Dinner marking the end of the retreat, the NCDMB Executive Secretary commended NLNG for its achievements with the Train 7 Project, which currently provides thousands of jobs and contributes significantly to Nigeria’s economy.
Pioneer Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Ernest Nwapa, also applauded NLNG’s decades-long leadership in local content development. He recalled NLNG as one of the earliest companies to voluntarily adopt Nigerian content principles and commission the industry’s first skills gap analysis to guide local capacity building.
He further praised NCDMB for its effective implementation of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act and the Board’s success in strengthening indigenous participation across the sector.

The event concluded with awards recognizing outstanding contributions to Nigerian content development. Honourees included:
