Nigeria’s aviation sector reached a defining milestone as Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, FNSE, MCOREN, NPOM (Danmajen Gwandu/Gamjin Kabi), Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), joined key stakeholders at the closing ceremony of the maiden Nigeria International Airshow—an event widely regarded as a turning point in the nation’s aviation and aerospace evolution.
Held for the first time in Nigeria’s history, the airshow signalled the country’s readiness to compete globally in aviation innovation, technology development, and industry collaboration. Engr. Farouk applauded President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, for championing the landmark initiative and demonstrating bold leadership that continues to reposition Nigeria on the global aviation map.
He noted that the debut airshow represents more than a ceremonial gathering, describing it as a strategic step toward accelerating sectoral reforms, attracting investments, and deepening international partnerships. “This airshow has set a new precedent for aviation development in Nigeria. The foresight of President Tinubu and Minister Keyamo has enabled the industry to embrace innovation and strengthen global engagement,” Engr. Farouk said.
The event attracted high-level participation from across the aviation value chain. In attendance were Festus Keyamo, SAN, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development; Dr. Yakubu Adam Kofarmata, the newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry; Captain Chris Ona Najomo, Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA); and Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director/CEO of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Also present were CEOs of government aviation agencies, industry experts, and private-sector leaders.
Across its sessions, the airshow featured exhibitions, technical discussions, bilateral meetings, and live demonstrations, all aimed at showcasing Nigeria’s aviation capabilities and unlocking opportunities for future growth. It highlighted the nation’s potential in aerospace development and reinforced its commitment to modernizing aviation infrastructure.
Engr. Farouk’s presence at the closing ceremony reaffirmed NAMA’s strategic role in strengthening Nigeria’s airspace infrastructure, improving safety systems, and supporting collaborative initiatives that promote technological advancement and operational excellence.
With the successful conclusion of the maiden Nigeria International Airshow, Nigeria has set a solid foundation for future editions, affirming its ambition to become a leading aviation and aerospace hub in Africa.
