The 2025 Pension Revolution Summit kicked off today in Abuja, bringing together top leaders from across Nigeria’s pension sector, key stakeholders, and members of the media to celebrate milestones, review achievements, and set the forward-looking agenda for the industry. The summit provides a live platform for reflection on a year defined by innovation, courage, and progress—the 365-days scorecard of Nigeria’s pension industry.
This landmark event comes on the back of another historic year under the leadership of Miss Omolola Bridget, confirmed in November 2024 as the Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom). Experts have hailed her appointment as one of the most visionary decisions of the current administration, ushering in a new era of reform and transformation in the sector.
Under Bridget’s stewardship, PenCom has resolved long-standing pension arrears for retirees of treasury-funded Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, reducing 21 months of unpaid benefits to zero. Salaries are now disbursed promptly in the month of retirement, marking a historic improvement in retirement welfare.
The Commission also spearheaded digital transformation across the pension ecosystem. Processes such as online issuance of pension certificates and the pension remittance contribution system have been automated, easing compliance for employers, strengthening transparency, and improving access for all Nigerians.
Strict compliance policies have been implemented, ensuring that only fully compliant organizations participate in the contributory pension scheme (CPS). Strategic collaborations with enforcement agencies have reinforced system integrity, while proactive oversight has recovered outstanding contributions from defaulting employers.
The results are tangible. Nigeria’s pension assets now exceed ₦26 trillion, with over 10 million workers enrolled in the CPS. Monthly pension payouts for 233,000 retirees have been streamlined, while initiatives such as the Board of Trustees’ Pancake Initiative provide affordable healthcare for seniors, extending support beyond financial security.
The Pension Revolution 2.0 initiative, launched under Bridget’s leadership, aims to expand coverage, deepen inclusion, and position the pension system as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth. The Abuja summit offers a platform for industry leaders, stakeholders, and media representatives to celebrate these achievements, exchange insights, and chart a bold vision for the future of Nigeria’s pension industry.
