The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has confirmed a fire incident at its Abuja office yesterday, with no loss of life. The fire erupted on the fourth floor of the building at No. 15 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, and was swiftly contained by security personnel and emergency responders.
In a statement, Sikiru Akinola, Technical Assistant (Print Media) to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, praised the timely intervention of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service and other emergency agencies. “With the swift support of our security team and emergency responders, the fire was successfully contained and prevented from spreading to other floors,” he said.
Akinola confirmed that while no staff or occupants were harmed, some offices on the affected floor, which houses executive suites of past FIRS chairmen, sustained damage.
According to the report, preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been triggered by an electrical fault. “An inquiry has commenced, and all internal safety protocols are being reviewed and strengthened to mitigate future risks,” Akinola added.
Experts have commended the rapid response. Fire safety consultant Mr. Emmanuel Okoro noted, “The quick containment demonstrates the effectiveness of trained personnel and coordinated emergency planning.” Security analyst Mrs. Deborah Obaje stressed the need for regular monitoring of electrical systems in public offices to prevent similar incidents.
FIRS assured the public that operations will continue uninterrupted while remedial measures are implemented to restore affected areas and reinforce safety procedures.
