Nigeria Customs Service | Oyo/Osun Area Command
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun Area Command, has recorded a smooth leadership transition with the appointment of Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DCC) Moses Wale Adewole as the Acting Customs Area Controller, following the redeployment of Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu to the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Lagos.
The change of leadership, formalised during a handover ceremony at the Command headquarters, underscores the Service’s commitment to continuity, operational efficiency, and institutional stability.
Speaking at the event, DCC Adewole expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, fnipr, psc (+), PhD, and the Management of the Nigeria Customs Service for the confidence reposed in him. He described his appointment as a call to higher national service and pledged to uphold the core values of professionalism, integrity, discipline, and teamwork in the discharge of his duties.
The Acting Controller commended his predecessor, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, for his impactful leadership, noting the Command’s improved performance in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations, and stakeholder engagement during his tenure. He assured officers and stakeholders that his administration would consolidate existing achievements while working to surpass current operational milestones.
DCC Adewole outlined his strategic focus areas to include transparent and efficient revenue collection, intensified anti-smuggling operations through collaboration with sister security agencies, continuous capacity building and welfare of officers, strengthened discipline and work ethics, and sustained engagement with traditional institutions, business communities, importers, exporters, and other stakeholders across Oyo and Osun States.
In his valedictory remarks, the outgoing Area Controller, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, described his tenure as rewarding and impactful. He attributed the Command’s successes to strong collaboration with the governments and people of Oyo and Osun States, effective synergy with sister security agencies, and consistent engagement with traditional rulers within the Command’s jurisdiction.
Comptroller Aliyu highlighted notable improvements in revenue performance, driven by enhanced compliance measures, structured engagement with excise factories, and the deployment of the B’odogwu Unified Customs Management System. He also praised the officers and men of the Command for their professionalism and resilience, which contributed to significant anti-smuggling achievements and the protection of the national economy.
The outgoing Controller urged his successor to sustain capacity-building initiatives, deepen engagement with border communities, and ensure the completion of the Command’s Corporate Social Responsibility project — the proposed Solar-Powered Healthcare Centre at Iragbiji.
The ceremony ended with goodwill messages and a shared commitment to service excellence, operational continuity, and the broader vision of the Nigeria Customs Service.
