The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to enhance regulatory effectiveness, attract investments, and stimulate sustainable growth across Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
This assurance was given by the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, during a courtesy visit by the Authority Chief Executive (ACE) of NMDPRA, Engr. Saidu Aliyu Mohammed, alongside members of the Authority’s top management team, in Abuja.

Senator Lokpobiri congratulated Engr. Mohammed on his appointment, describing him as a highly experienced oil and gas professional with over 30 years of industry expertise. He expressed confidence that the new leadership would further strengthen the regulatory oversight of Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum segments.
The Minister reiterated the Federal Government’s readiness to support NMDPRA in delivering its mandate under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), stressing that effective regulation is critical to improving investor confidence, boosting revenue generation, and ensuring efficiency across the petroleum value chain.

According to him, the administration is focused on creating a stable, transparent, and predictable regulatory environment that will attract both local and foreign investments, while addressing long-standing bottlenecks in the sector.
“The growth of the oil and gas industry, particularly in the midstream and downstream segments, depends largely on strong institutions, proactive regulation, and effective collaboration between government and regulators,” Lokpobiri said.
He added that the Federal Government will continue to work closely with NMDPRA to promote energy security, encourage domestic refining, expand gas utilisation, and support the development of critical infrastructure necessary for economic growth.

In his response, Engr. Saidu Aliyu Mohammed expressed appreciation for the Minister’s support and reaffirmed NMDPRA’s commitment to proactive regulation and stakeholder engagement. He said the Authority would intensify efforts to address regulatory challenges and create an enabling environment that incentivises private sector participation and sustainable business growth.

Mohammed noted that NMDPRA remains committed to transparency, regulatory efficiency, and strict adherence to safety and environmental standards, adding that these measures are essential to restoring investor confidence and repositioning the sector for long-term competitiveness.
The meeting highlights the Federal Government’s renewed emphasis on institutional collaboration as a cornerstone of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s oil and gas industry and maximising its contribution to national economic development.

The Federal Government has pledged stronger collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to improve regulation, attract investment, and drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
