The Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, has wrapped up the year with a highly successful end-of-year operational performance, demonstrating resilience, flexibility, and strong stakeholder collaboration during the peak festive travel season.

Amid the surge in passenger traffic and aircraft movements typical of the period, MMA2 sustained seamless operations through close coordination with airline partners, ground handling companies, and other critical service providers. Passenger comfort, safety, and service continuity remained central, as the terminal extended operational hours on several occasions to accommodate late-night and delayed flights—often staying open beyond scheduled shutdown periods—while still carrying out routine and essential maintenance without compromise.

To manage increased demand, MMA2 deployed additional operational and ground support measures in collaboration with handling partners. These efforts ensured efficient passenger facilitation, smooth baggage processing, and minimal disruption to airline schedules, reinforcing the terminal’s reputation for reliability and service excellence even under peak pressure.

Reflecting on the year-end performance and looking ahead to 2026, Remi Jibodu, Head of Aeronautics & Cargo Services and Acting Chief Operating Officer, said lessons from the peak period will drive new efficiency-focused initiatives.

“The year-end peak period highlighted the importance of structured coordination among all stakeholders operating within the terminal environment,” Jibodu said. “In 2026, MMA2 will introduce a structured slot system to balance demand and capacity across the terminal. This will improve aircraft movement coordination, reduce congestion during peak periods, enhance on-time performance for our airline partners, and enable better planning and deployment by ground handling companies.”

He noted that the slot system forms part of MMA2’s broader operational optimisation strategy and aligns the terminal with global best practices in apron and airside management.

Beyond aeronautical operations, MMA2 also recorded notable gains across its non-aeronautical services. Kola Bamigboye, Head, Space & Premises Management and Acting COO, said the year under review marked a period of innovation and strong performance across customer-facing services.

“From retail and concession management to enhanced passenger amenities, our focus has been on delivering a convenient, comfortable, and engaging terminal environment,” Bamigboye said. “We are well-positioned to sustain this momentum in 2026 by continuing to innovate and elevate the customer journey.”

Security and passenger-support systems also recorded improvements during the festive period, according to Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, Head, Corporate Communications at Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited. Enhanced CCTV surveillance played a key role in monitoring terminal activities and facilitating the prompt recovery of lost or forgotten items, including personal belongings and travel documents, many of which were successfully returned to their owners—earning commendations and positive passenger testimonials.

To further support travelers, MMA2 maintained an active customer experience email channel throughout the busy season, ensuring swift acknowledgment, investigation, and resolution of reported issues. This proactive engagement contributed to improved passenger confidence and overall service satisfaction.

As operations normalize in the new year, MMA2 says it remains focused on consolidating the gains from the festive season while deepening collaboration with airlines, ground handlers, regulators, and other stakeholders across the aviation value chain. With continuous improvement, efficiency, and customer satisfaction as priorities, the terminal is positioning itself for a strong and well-coordinated operational year in 2026—reinforcing its status as a dependable aviation hub and a leading example of private-sector-led airport terminal management in Nigeria.
