MultiChoice Nigeria has announced the appointment of Kemi Omotosho as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective January 2026, ushering in a new chapter of leadership at one of Africa’s foremost pay-TV and digital entertainment companies.
Omotosho takes over from John Ugbe, who is retiring after nearly 15 years as CEO. Ugbe’s tenure is widely regarded as transformational, marked by significant expansion of MultiChoice’s operations in Nigeria, increased investment in local content, and the successful navigation of rapid technological change and shifting consumer habits.
Leadership Transition at a Critical Time
The company described the leadership change as part of its long-term succession strategy, aimed at ensuring stability and sustained growth in a highly competitive and fast-evolving media landscape.
In her new role, Omotosho will oversee MultiChoice Nigeria’s strategic direction, daily operations, regulatory engagement, and relationships with key stakeholders. A central focus of her mandate will be strengthening local content production and supporting Nigeria’s creative economy, which remains a core pillar of the MultiChoice Group’s African growth strategy.
“It is a privilege to be entrusted with the leadership of MultiChoice Nigeria at this important moment,” Omotosho said in a statement.
“Nigeria remains one of the Group’s most strategic markets. I look forward to working with our teams and partners to deepen our relationship with consumers, champion local storytelling and the creative economy, and build a future-ready organisation that delivers sustainable value.”
Extensive Experience Across Media and Telecoms
Omotosho brings over two decades of experience across media, telecommunications, and digital services in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. She is widely recognised for her expertise in customer value management, operational excellence, and multi-market strategy execution.
A long-serving executive within the MultiChoice Group, she previously served as Executive Head of Customer Value Management in Nigeria, before assuming the role of Group Executive Head of Customer Value Management for Rest of Africa, where she provided leadership support across more than 50 markets.
In these capacities, she spearheaded initiatives to reduce customer churn, expand digital product adoption, and optimise average revenue per user, while also leading group-wide transformation projects, including the rollout of agile business processes and enhanced governance frameworks.
Regional Leadership and Commercial Oversight
Most recently, Omotosho was Regional Director for Southern Africa, managing a seven-country portfolio with full profit-and-loss responsibility. The role strengthened her credentials as a commercially focused leader with the ability to balance short-term performance with long-term strategic growth.
Her career began in customer service and operations at Computer Systems Associates, before moving into senior leadership positions at Airtel Nigeria, where she worked on postpaid customer retention, enterprise account management, and revenue optimisation.
Academic and Professional Background
Omotosho holds an Executive MBA from Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the Nigerian Institute of Management, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Ilorin.
Outlook for MultiChoice Nigeria
Industry observers say Omotosho’s appointment highlights MultiChoice’s commitment to local leadership and deep market understanding as Nigeria consolidates its position as a major hub for African film, television, sports, and digital content.
As the company faces increasing competition from streaming platforms and shifting consumer preferences, her leadership will be pivotal in shaping MultiChoice Nigeria’s next phase of growth, building on the foundation laid by John Ugbe while steering the business toward a more digital and consumer-centric future.
MultiChoice Nigeria appoints Kemi Omotosho as CEO from January 2026, succeeding John Ugbe after 15 years. The move signals a new leadership era for Nigeria’s leading pay-TV and digital entertainment company.
