ACP Afegbai Hails MD Olubunmi Kuku’s Leadership in Transforming Aviation Security in Two Years

The Director of Aviation Security Services, ACP Afegbai Albert Igbafe (Rtd), has commended the leadership of Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Aviation Security Services Directorate, on the occasion of her two-year anniversary in office.

ACP Igbafe highlighted the remarkable progress achieved under her tenure, noting that the Directorate has strengthened Nigeria’s aviation security architecture through a combination of modern technology, strategic personnel training, and inter-agency collaboration.

“We have significantly improved airport security nationwide. Our efforts include deploying state-of-the-art screening equipment, enhancing access control systems, and fostering closer coordination with security agencies. These initiatives have created safer airports and strengthened stakeholder confidence in the country’s aviation security framework,” he said.

The Director also emphasized the successful introduction of specialized programs, including the establishment of armed airport units and the training of canines for security operations. “These initiatives have enhanced our operational efficiency. Most of our personnel are now fully trained, and the canine program has been highly effective since its implementation,” ACP Igbafe noted.
He further praised Mrs. Kuku for her proactive and enabling leadership style.

“Her ability to tackle challenges head-on and provide an environment where directors can perform effectively has been critical to our success. Her leadership over the past two years has transformed the Directorate,” he added.

Key achievements under Mrs. Kuku’s tenure include the delivery of international Aviation Security Operations Courses (AFSOC) at ASTC Lagos, automation upgrades at security gates, restructuring of screening procedures, recruitment of skilled personnel, and overall improvements in airport surveillance and response systems.
ACP Igbafe expressed optimism about the future, stating: “For the past two years, Mrs. Kuku’s leadership has been exemplary. I look forward to continued progress and even greater achievements in the years ahead.”
