Philanthropy in Action as Engr. Akpa Achema Builds Free State-of-the-Art Hospital in Ankpa

In a major boost to healthcare access in Kogi East, Engr. Akpa Stephen Achema, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Zoe New Dawn, has announced the construction of a state-of-the-art hospital in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, with services and medications to be offered completely free to the general public.
Engr. Achema made the disclosure during a telephone interview with our correspondent, Sunday Attabo, explaining that the healthcare facility is already about 70 per cent completed and designed to meet global medical standards.

According to him, the hospital will be fully equipped with modern diagnostic and treatment facilities, including MRI scan machines and other critical medical equipment, positioning it as the first hospital of its kind in Ankpa.

“I’m building a state-of-the-art hospital in Ankpa Local Government Area. The facility will be fully equipped, fully functional, and all medications will be provided completely free of charge,” Achema said.

He further revealed that advanced medical equipment is expected to arrive as early as next week, adding that the hospital would be ready for public use within a few weeks.
In a striking revelation, Engr. Achema said the project was not originally conceived as a healthcare initiative. He explained that the property was initially acquired for commercial purposes before he decided to redirect it toward community service.

“I bought the building for a hotel project, but after listening to the cries of the people for a hospital, I changed my mind,” he said.
Beyond Ankpa, the philanthropist disclosed plans to replicate the hospital project across the remaining eight local government areas in Kogi East, a move that could significantly improve healthcare delivery across the zone if permitted.

Engr. Achema also dismissed any political undertones associated with the project, stressing that his intervention is purely humanitarian.

“I am not a politician, and I am not joining any political party,” he stated.

Meanwhile, URAH TV has assured the public that it will continue to monitor the progress of the project and provide updates as construction advances toward completion.
The free hospital initiative has been widely welcomed by residents and stakeholders, who see it as a timely intervention that could reduce medical costs and improve access to quality healthcare in Ankpa and beyond.
