Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has concluded the 2026 edition of its flagship #NLNGChangeYourStory workshop, training 32 journalists on the use of artificial intelligence and digital communication tools to strengthen modern newsroom practice.
The three-day capacity-building programme, held in Abuja, brought together journalists from various media organisations across the country. The workshop focused on the evolving dynamics of journalism in the digital age, highlighting how artificial intelligence, data tools and new media platforms are reshaping news gathering, reporting, verification and audience engagement.

Speaking at the close of the workshop on Wednesday, the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, Ms. Sophia Horsfall, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to capacity development as a core pillar of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. She said the #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative is designed to equip journalists with relevant skills and practical knowledge needed to thrive in a fast-paced, technology-driven media environment.

Horsfall described journalism as a calling that plays a critical role in informing, educating and shaping society. She encouraged participants to apply the skills acquired during the training to produce professional, impactful and credible media content, noting that quality storytelling remains essential to public enlightenment and national development.
She expressed confidence that beneficiaries of the workshop would continue to influence public discourse positively and build meaningful collaborations through stories that reflect NLNG’s vision of being a globally competitive energy company committed to improving lives sustainably.

The NLNG executive also highlighted the company’s broader support for the media sector, referencing initiatives such as the NLNG Prize for Energy Reporting at the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME), among other interventions aimed at promoting excellence and professionalism in journalism.

Earlier, in her opening remarks, the Manager, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at NLNG, Mrs. Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, said the company is deliberate in its investment in media development to raise professional standards within Nigeria’s media space.

“This workshop moved beyond theory to address the real pressures of the digital newsroom, including speed, verification, audience trust and relevance. Our support for these competencies is targeted at building a resilient media ecosystem capable of producing accurate, impactful journalism that shapes public understanding and contributes to national progress,” she said.

The workshop was facilitated by digital communication specialist Dan Mason, alongside the Journalism Clinic led by veteran media professional Mr. Taiwo Obe. Participants were taken through hands-on sessions on digital storytelling, data visualisation, online fact-checking, audience engagement and effective management of digital platforms.

Since its inception, the #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative has empowered over 180 journalists, enhancing digital communication and social media skills across its various editions and reinforcing NLNG’s long-standing commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s media industry.
