The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has recorded a major institutional breakthrough with the attainment of two internationally recognised certifications—ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management Systems and ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management Systems—further positioning Nigeria’s airports on the global aviation map.

The certifications were awarded by MSECB, Canada, following a comprehensive and independent audit of FAAN’s operational systems and processes across its airports. The assessment confirmed that the Authority’s procedures meet globally accepted standards for service quality, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement.

Speaking on the development, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, described the achievement as a validation of FAAN’s ongoing reforms aimed at improving efficiency, safety, and customer experience within Nigeria’s airport network.

According to Agbebire, the ISO 9001:2015 certification affirms that FAAN’s management systems are structured to consistently deliver reliable, customer-focused airport services, while the ISO 14001:2015 certification underscores the Authority’s commitment to sustainable environmental practices, including effective waste management, energy efficiency, and reduced environmental impact.

He noted that the dual certification enhances FAAN’s institutional credibility and strengthens the competitiveness of Nigerian airports in the increasingly demanding global aviation environment. With airports serving as critical gateways for trade, tourism, and investment, the recognition is expected to boost investor confidence and improve Nigeria’s standing among international aviation stakeholders.

Industry analysts say the milestone reflects FAAN’s gradual transformation into a more process-driven and accountable organisation, built on staff capacity development, operational audits, and adherence to international best practices.

FAAN expressed appreciation to its stakeholders for their continued support and commended the commitment and professionalism of its workforce, whose collective efforts made the achievement possible. The Authority reaffirmed its resolve to sustain the standards that earned the certifications while continuously improving service delivery across the Nigerian aviation sector.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has secured ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications from MSECB Canada, confirming its commitment to quality service delivery, environmental sustainability, and global aviation standards.
