The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has hosted a delegation from the United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen aviation security and align Nigeria’s airport operations with global best practices.
The engagement took place on January 26, 2026, at the NCAA Conference Hall Annex in Lagos, where senior officials of the aviation regulator received the visiting TSA team for a detailed briefing session. During the meeting, the U.S. delegation disclosed that the visit was specifically aimed at conducting a comprehensive aviation security assessment of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja.
According to the TSA officials, the assessment will focus on evaluating existing security measures, screening procedures, access control systems, and overall compliance with international aviation security standards. The exercise is intended to identify strengths, address gaps, and recommend improvements that will enhance passenger safety and the protection of critical aviation infrastructure.
The NCAA described the assessment as a strategic engagement that underscores the importance of international collaboration in maintaining secure and efficient air transport systems. The Authority reiterated its commitment to continuous improvement in aviation security, capacity development, and adherence to standards prescribed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
MMIA, Nigeria’s busiest international airport and a major hub for regional and intercontinental air traffic, remains a key focus of ongoing reforms aimed at boosting safety, security, and operational efficiency. Outcomes from the TSA-led assessment are expected to further strengthen Nigeria’s aviation security framework and reinforce confidence among international airlines, travelers, and global partners.
