Nigeria is making bold strides toward a digital, transparent, and integrated customs administration with the global unveiling of B’Odogwu, its Unified Customs Management System, at the 2026 World Customs Organization (WCO) Technology Conference in Abu Dhabi. The initiative was presented under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Adebowale Bashir Adeniyi, marking a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing modernization agenda.
Addressing international stakeholders, CGC Adeniyi emphasized that the future of customs lies in leveraging technology to drive efficiency, accountability, and trust. “B’Odogwu is more than a digital system—it is a transformational platform designed to streamline customs processes, reduce clearance bottlenecks, enhance revenue assurance, and facilitate seamless trade,” he said.
The WCO Technology Conference, which gathers customs officials, technology innovators, and trade experts from across the globe, provided Nigeria with a strategic platform to showcase its commitment to smart customs governance. By integrating multiple customs operations into a unified digital framework, B’Odogwu is set to strengthen transparency, improve compliance, and provide real-time cargo visibility, enabling faster decision-making and more efficient border management.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s reform journey, CGC Adeniyi noted that the system aligns with global best practices in digital customs administration. The B’Odogwu platform also emphasizes inter-agency interoperability, data-driven policy implementation, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring that both trade operators and government agencies benefit from a more predictable and efficient process.
The initiative has been hailed by trade and logistics stakeholders as a game-changer for Nigeria’s trade ecosystem, promising to reduce smuggling, limit revenue leakages, and enhance the nation’s competitiveness in regional and international markets. Experts at the conference highlighted Nigeria’s approach as a model for other emerging economies seeking to modernize their customs services.
Looking forward, B’Odogwu is expected to accelerate trade facilitation, boost revenue collection, and strengthen regional integration, positioning Nigeria as a leader in the transformation of African customs operations. By combining technology, transparency, and accountability, the system reflects CGC Adeniyi’s vision of a future-ready customs administration built on trust and efficiency.
