Premium Trust Bank has achieved a remarkable transformation since its establishment in April 2022, growing from a modest ₦10 billion regional bank into a national powerhouse with a balance sheet approaching ₦2 trillion, under the leadership of Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Emmanuel Efe Emefinim, CON, FCIB.
Speaking on the bank’s extraordinary journey, Dr. Emefinim highlighted the critical role of a dedicated, women-led management team. “Most of my team leads and heads of departments, who followed me from Sterling Bank, were women. I asked them if they knew where we were headed. They said, ‘Sir, we have followed you, and we know you are leading us somewhere,’” he said.
Within just one year, Premium Trust upgraded from a regional license to a national banking license, with the founding team remaining steadfast throughout the transition. The bank also met the Central Bank of Nigeria’s recapitalization requirement, which increased minimum capital from ₦25 billion to ₦200 billion, achieving the target seven months ahead of the August 2025 deadline.
Under Dr. Emefinim’s leadership, the bank has demonstrated both operational excellence and financial growth:
Broke even within three months of commencing operations, paying salaries directly from profits.
Capital base grew from ₦10 billion in 2022 to over ₦200 billion today.
Balance sheet expanded from ₦10 billion to nearly ₦2 trillion within four years.
