The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reinforced its commitment to deeper inter-agency cooperation and stakeholder engagement through a series of strategic courtesy and familiarisation visits aimed at strengthening security, enhancing intelligence sharing, and promoting coordinated operations across the state.
The renewed drive for collaboration was highlighted when the Operational Headquarters of the Command hosted a delegation from the Nigerian Air Force Works Station, Ibadan, led by Air Commodore D.U. Njoku. The delegation was received by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole, alongside principal officers of the Command.

Speaking during the visit, Air Commodore Njoku underscored the importance of sustained synergy among security agencies in tackling emerging threats and safeguarding national interests. He noted that effective collaboration remains critical in combating smuggling, economic sabotage, and other transborder crimes that undermine Nigeria’s economic stability and internal security.

In his remarks, Deputy Comptroller Adewole appreciated the Nigerian Air Force for the familiarisation visit and reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to deepen operational partnerships. He stressed that the Nigeria Customs Service remains firmly committed to its statutory mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security, adding that cooperation with sister agencies significantly enhances operational effectiveness and national security outcomes.

As part of broader stakeholder engagement, the Acting Customs Area Controller also paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Oyo State Command, where he was received by the Deputy Comptroller of Immigration representing the State Controller, DC VC Oyeaka. Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening intelligence sharing mechanisms, ensuring coordinated border management, and adopting proactive strategies to reinforce the state’s overall security architecture.

Further demonstrating the Command’s community-focused approach, Deputy Comptroller Adewole paid homage to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Senator Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja. The visit highlighted the Nigeria Customs Service’s recognition of traditional institutions as essential partners in maintaining peace, promoting lawful trade, and supporting grassroots-driven security initiatives capable of fostering economic growth and social stability.

Providing additional insight into the significance of the engagements, Abdulmalik Abiodun Akintola, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I and Command Public Relations Officer, stated that the visits form part of a deliberate strategy by the Oyo/Osun Area Command to strengthen institutional relationships and improve operational intelligence across all security layers.

According to Akintola, sustained collaboration among security agencies, traditional authorities, and host communities remains vital to curbing illicit trade, protecting national revenue, and creating a secure environment that supports legitimate commerce and regional development.

He reaffirmed that the Command will continue to prioritise stakeholder engagement, intelligence-driven enforcement, and inter-agency coordination to ensure the effective discharge of the Nigeria Customs Service’s statutory responsibilities within Oyo and Osun states.

The Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command, has intensified inter-agency and community collaboration through strategic visits to the Nigerian Air Force, Immigration Service, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, aimed at strengthening security, intelligence sharing, and lawful trade facilitation.

Oyo/Osun Customs deepens security cooperation with the Air Force, Immigration Service, and traditional institutions to enhance intelligence sharing, border security, and economic protection across the region.
