Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) has been recognised for its pioneering role in oilfield development at the 9th Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES), held last week in Abuja. The company received the prestigious award for “Best Oilfield Development Projects”, highlighting its leadership in advancing Nigeria’s deep-water oil and gas sector.
SNEPCo’s journey in deep-water production began in 2005 with the Bonga field—the first oilfield in Nigeria developed in water depths exceeding 1,000 meters. Since then, the company has steadily expanded operations, including the successful launch of the Bonga Northwest project in 2015. The award comes as work continues on the Bonga North project, whose Final Investment Decision (FID) was approved in December 2024.
Commenting on the recognition, SNEPCo Managing Director Ronald Adams said:
“We’re pleased at the latest recognition of our leading role in developing Nigeria’s deep-water oil and gas resources. With the support of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, co-venture partners, and our hardworking staff, we will continue to operate safely and deliver consistent value as we power progress in Nigeria.”
The NIES award ceremony saw the presence of key industry leaders, including Chidi Nkazi, Business Value Manager at SNEPCo; Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC); Olaposi Fadahunsi, SNEPCo General Manager of Emerging Projects; Ahmed Abubaker, General Manager of Corporate Relations; and Odinakachi Umunna, SNEPCo Commercial Lead.
The Nigeria International Energy Summit remains one of the most influential gatherings for stakeholders in the global energy sector. This year’s edition drew over 5,000 participants from more than 30 countries, including ministers, CEOs, and energy experts. Themed “Energy for Peace and Prosperity: Securing Our Shared Future”, the four-day summit highlighted innovation, investment, and collaboration as the pillars of sustainable energy development.
SNEPCo’s recognition at NIES underscores its enduring contribution to Nigeria’s energy infrastructure, reinforcing the company’s commitment to safe operations, technological innovation, and value creation in the oil and gas sector.
