The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced a scheduled routine maintenance exercise on major gas production facilities operated by Seplat Energy Plc, a joint venture partner and one of the principal suppliers of gas into the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC) pipeline network.
In a public notice issued on February 12, 2026, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, Andy Odeh, stated that the maintenance programme will run from February 12 to February 15, 2026, and forms part of established industry safety, asset integrity, and operational sustainability protocols.

According to Odeh, periodic maintenance of critical gas infrastructure is essential to preserving system reliability, sustaining efficient production levels, and strengthening operational resilience across Nigeria’s gas supply chain. He emphasised that such preventive interventions are globally recognised best practices designed to minimise the risk of unexpected shutdowns and prolonged service disruptions.

Temporary Supply Reduction Expected
NNPC Ltd disclosed that gas supply into the NGIC pipeline network will be temporarily reduced during the four-day maintenance window. As a result, some gas-fired power generation companies that depend on the network may experience reduced gas availability, a situation that could moderately affect electricity generation within the period.

The company, however, reassured stakeholders that the impact is expected to be short-term and carefully managed.
Mitigation Measures Underway
To cushion potential disruptions, NNPC Ltd and Seplat Energy are working in close coordination to ensure the maintenance exercise is executed safely, efficiently, and within the scheduled timeframe.

In parallel, NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) has commenced engagements with alternative gas suppliers to bridge anticipated supply gaps and maintain relative stability across the national gas distribution network. The intervention is aimed at limiting the effect on downstream electricity generation and broader energy availability.

Full Supply to Resume After Maintenance
NNPC Ltd affirmed that normal gas supply into the NGIC system is expected to resume immediately after completion of the maintenance work, enabling affected power plants to return to standard operational capacity without prolonged interruption.

The national oil company added that further updates will be communicated to the public where necessary, reinforcing its commitment to transparency, operational safety, and energy security.

NNPC confirms scheduled Seplat gas facility maintenance from Feb. 12–15, 2026, warning of temporary gas supply reduction and possible short-term impact on electricity generation in Nigeria.
