The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has intensified preparations for the enforcement of its cashless transaction policy, announcing designated pick-up points for its Go-Cashless cards across airports nationwide ahead of the March 1, 2026 implementation date.
The Authority said airport users, stakeholders, and members of the public can now obtain the Go-Cashless cards at all FAAN commercial offices and airport access gates with immediate effect. In addition, designated branches of Fidelity Bank Plc will commence card distribution from March 16, 2026, to expand accessibility.
The disclosure was made in a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, who explained that the rollout is part of measures to ensure a seamless transition to a fully cashless system across Nigeria’s airports.
Aligning with Federal Government Directive
The cashless drive follows a Federal Government directive mandating all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to migrate to electronic payment systems. The policy is designed to enhance transparency in revenue collection, eliminate leakages, and strengthen transaction traceability within government institutions.
Industry observers note that the aviation sector, with its high daily traffic and multiple revenue streams ranging from access gate fees to other service charges, represents a critical environment for enforcing financial accountability through digital systems.
FAAN reiterated that it is fully committed to complying with the directive and positioning Nigeria’s airports in line with global operational standards, where digital payments dominate airport ecosystems.
What Airport Users Should Know
Under the new arrangement, users requiring access to FAAN-operated facilities will need the Go-Cashless card for transactions previously conducted with physical cash. The Authority assured the public that adequate distribution channels have been put in place to avoid disruptions.
Importantly, FAAN clarified that while March 1 marks the commencement of enforcement, the Go-Cashless cards will continue to be available at designated locations beyond the deadline to accommodate late adopters.
Faster, Safer, More Accountable
According to FAAN, the initiative will not only promote accountability but also improve operational efficiency by reducing queues, minimizing cash-handling risks, and accelerating transaction processing time within airport environments.
The Authority appealed for patience and cooperation from airport users during the transition phase, emphasizing that the policy ultimately aims to deliver faster, safer, and more convenient services across its facilities nationwide.
With Nigeria’s aviation sector undergoing reforms in infrastructure, safety, and regulatory compliance, FAAN’s cashless migration marks another step toward modernizing airport management and strengthening institutional transparency.
