The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified misinformation circulating online regarding its upcoming Operation Go Cashless initiative.
Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, stated that a viral SMS warning claiming FAAN’s official messages are a scam is false, misleading, and entirely unfounded. “The official SMS notifications informing members of the public about Operation Go Cashless are legitimate and part of FAAN’s nationwide public sensitisation campaign in partnership with MTN Nigeria,” he emphasized.
FAAN’s Operation Go Cashless is a bold initiative aimed at implementing a fully cashless and contactless payment system across all airport payment points nationwide. This move is designed to provide faster, safer, and more convenient transactions for all passengers and airport users.
The programme officially commences on March 1, 2026, and passengers are encouraged to pick up their Go-Cashless cards at all commercial offices and access gates nationwide. FAAN assures travelers that the new system will make payments smoother and more secure across all airport services.
Agbebire urged the public to disregard false counter-messages and to rely solely on verified information from FAAN’s official communication channels, including its website, social media platforms, and public announcements at airports.
FAAN reinforced its commitment to passenger convenience, transparency, and the safety and security of all airport users, highlighting that Operation Go Cashless is a step toward a smarter, seamless, and more secure airport experience.
