Nigeria and Cameroon have taken a major step toward enhancing aviation safety and regional cooperation with the signing of a landmark Bilateral Agreement on Technical Aeronautical Search and Rescue (SAR) Operations.
The agreement was formalised in Yaoundé on Friday as Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, led a high-level delegation to meet with Cameroon’s Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest NgalNgallé Bibehe.
The pact between the Nigeria and the Cameroon establishes a structured framework for joint aeronautical search and rescue operations, enabling faster and more coordinated responses to aviation emergencies across their shared airspace and border regions.
Enhancing Regional Airspace Safety
Aviation experts have long emphasised the importance of cross-border collaboration in search and rescue missions, especially in regions where flight paths frequently intersect. The newly signed agreement outlines clear technical protocols, communication channels, and operational coordination mechanisms between both countries’ aviation authorities.

The Nigerian delegation included the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and senior officials from the Ministry. Their presence highlighted a coordinated institutional commitment to ensuring seamless implementation of the agreement.
