….Agency targets stronger financial journalism as AI reshapes credit rating, market transparency, and investor confidence

In a strategic move to strengthen financial journalism and deepen understanding of credit rating systems, DataPro has announced March 26, 2026, as the date for its annual media training programme for journalists and financial communicators.
The virtual training, which has become a flagship initiative of the agency, is designed to equip media practitioners with the tools and knowledge required to effectively report on credit ratings and financial analysis in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
According to Victoria Balogun, Senior Financial Analyst at DataPro, the programme was first introduced in 2021 as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. She explained that the goal was to bridge the knowledge gap in financial reporting and enhance public awareness about the importance of credit ratings in economic development.
“The training was conceived to help journalists and the investing public better understand the value propositions of the credit rating industry, particularly in promoting transparency and informed decision-making,” she said.
Over the years, the initiative has evolved into a vital platform for engaging key stakeholders across the media and financial sectors. This year’s edition is expected to attract participants from print and electronic media, editors covering capital markets, financial analysts, communication officers in financial institutions, and financial industry influencers.
The 2026 training is themed “Reporting Financial Analysis in the Age of AI,” reflecting the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence on financial reporting, credit assessment, and data interpretation. With AI increasingly deployed to process complex datasets, generate insights, and support decision-making, the role of journalists is undergoing a significant transformation.
Providing further perspective, the Executive Director and Chief Rating Officer of DataPro, Oladele Adeoye, stressed that the future of financial journalism lies in the ability to combine technological tools with professional judgment.
“Financial reporting is no longer just about numbers; it is about trust, transparency, and resilience. In the age of AI, media practitioners must be equipped to interpret dynamic data and communicate it in ways that empower society,” Adeoye stated.
He noted that while AI has enhanced the speed and efficiency of financial reporting, it also raises critical concerns around data integrity, bias, and accountability. As such, journalists must develop the capacity to interrogate AI-generated insights and present balanced, accurate, and context-driven reports.
The training will focus on practical understanding of how AI tools are reshaping financial reporting and credit analysis. Participants will gain insights into interpreting financial data, understanding rating methodologies, and reporting on credit risk in ways that are both accurate and accessible to the public.
Industry experts believe that initiatives like this are crucial in an era where financial markets are becoming more complex and interconnected. As access to information increases, the need for credible, well-informed journalism becomes even more important in guiding investor behaviour and maintaining market stability.
Beyond the media training, DataPro continues to play a leading role in promoting the credit rating industry through its annual International Credit Rating Webinar held every October. The agency’s sustained advocacy underscores its commitment to improving financial literacy and strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s capital market.
As a licensed Credit Rating Agency regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission, DataPro leverages advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Big Data to enhance efficiency, transparency, and turnaround time in credit rating processes.
With the 2026 edition of its media training, the agency is reinforcing the message that while technology continues to redefine financial reporting, the human role in ensuring clarity, trust, and accountability remains indispensable.
The training will be conducted virtually and is open to qualified participants at no cost, providing a unique opportunity for organisations to strengthen their teams without financial barriers.
