The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has marked International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026 with a resounding celebration of its female workforce, spotlighting their resilience, achievements, and growing influence in Nigeria’s financial system.
Held on March 27, 2026, the event—anchored on the theme “Give to Gain”—underscored the Corporation’s enduring commitment to gender inclusion, professional development, and institutional excellence.
Leading the celebration was the Managing Director/Chief Executive, Thompson Oludare Sunday, supported by the Executive Director (Corporate Services), Emily Osuji, and the Executive Director (Operations), Kabir Sabo Katata. Together, the leadership team paid tribute to the pivotal role women play in advancing NDIC’s mandate of protecting depositors and ensuring financial system stability.
Framed within the Corporation’s identity—“Protecting Your Bank Deposits”—the IWD celebration also served as a reflection of NDIC’s broader institutional values: trust, integrity, and inclusiveness.
In his keynote remarks, Sunday described NDIC’s female workforce as a “cornerstone of operational strength,” noting that their contributions span critical areas including bank supervision, liquidation, risk management, and corporate services.
“The success of NDIC is deeply tied to the dedication and excellence of our women. Their resilience and professionalism continue to shape the Corporation’s legacy and future,” he said.
He further emphasized that the “Give to Gain” theme resonates strongly with NDIC’s culture—encouraging mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative leadership as pathways to collective growth and national impact.
Osuji, in her address, highlighted the Corporation’s deliberate efforts to create an enabling environment where women can thrive and lead. She pointed to ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening capacity building, leadership pipelines, and work-life balance policies.
“Empowering women within NDIC is not just about fairness—it is about maximizing potential and driving institutional performance. When women are supported, the entire system benefits,” she stated.
On his part, Katata commended the technical competence and leadership acumen demonstrated by female staff across NDIC’s operations. He noted that their contributions have significantly enhanced the Corporation’s effectiveness in delivering on its core responsibilities, particularly in safeguarding depositors and maintaining confidence in the banking system.
The event featured recognition of outstanding female employees, interactive discussions, and mentorship-focused sessions designed to inspire the next generation of leaders within the Corporation. Participants also explored strategies for deepening gender inclusion across Nigeria’s financial services landscape.
Beyond celebration, the IWD 2026 commemoration reinforced NDIC’s strategic positioning as a forward-looking institution that recognizes diversity as a catalyst for innovation and sustainable growth.
As global conversations around gender equality gain momentum, NDIC’s message was clear: empowering women is not only a social imperative but a critical driver of economic resilience.
With renewed commitment, the Corporation reaffirmed its pledge to continue investing in its female workforce—ensuring that they are equipped, empowered, and inspired to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s financial stability and economic development.
