The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has intensified efforts to strengthen pension administration across Nigeria, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding workers’ retirement savings and improving compliance with the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
On Monday, 30 March 2026, the Director General of the PenCom Nigeria, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, led a high-level delegation on a courtesy visit to the Governor of Monday Okpebholo in Abuja.
The meeting served as a strategic engagement focused on deepening collaboration between the pension regulator and the Edo State Government, particularly in areas of compliance enforcement, pension remittance efficiency, and improved coverage under the CPS framework.
Discussions centered on the urgent need to strengthen institutional coordination between PenCom and state governments to close compliance gaps that often affect timely remittance of pension contributions. The delegation also emphasized the importance of ensuring that public servants’ retirement benefits are adequately protected, transparently managed, and sustainably funded.
According to PenCom, improving compliance at the sub-national level remains critical to building a resilient pension system capable of delivering long-term financial security for Nigerian workers. The Commission reiterated its readiness to provide technical support, policy guidance, and monitoring frameworks that will enhance pension administration across states.
In response, Governor Okpebholo expressed openness to deeper collaboration with PenCom, noting that his administration is committed to strengthening governance structures that ensure full compliance with national pension laws. He further reaffirmed Edo State’s determination to prioritize the welfare and financial security of its workforce through improved pension management practices.
The engagement highlights PenCom’s broader reform agenda aimed at expanding CPS coverage nationwide, improving accountability in pension remittances, and reinforcing trust in Nigeria’s retirement savings system.
