The inauguration of the Gateway International Airport and the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ Complex in Ogun State has been described as a defining milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing infrastructure renewal and trade facilitation agenda, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commending the Nigeria Customs Service for its forward-looking transformation drive.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who presided over the commissioning ceremony, praised the Comptroller-General of Customs, Wale Adeniyi, for delivering a modern operational facility that strengthens institutional efficiency, enhances border security capabilities, and supports the administration’s broader economic reform agenda.
According to the President, the newly inaugurated facilities represent more than physical infrastructure—they are strategic national assets designed to reposition Nigeria’s logistics and aviation ecosystem for competitiveness, efficiency, and global relevance. He noted that the Customs Service has continued to align its operations with the federal government’s vision of trade facilitation, improved revenue generation, and seamless cargo movement across key national gateways.
The Gateway International Airport, one of the flagship projects under Ogun State’s industrial development blueprint, is expected to significantly decongest existing aviation hubs while opening new corridors for domestic and international trade. Located within a rapidly expanding industrial zone, the airport is projected to serve as a catalyst for investment inflows, export expansion, and job creation.
In addition, the newly commissioned FOU Zone ‘A’ Complex provides the Nigeria Customs Service with an upgraded operational base designed to enhance enforcement efficiency, intelligence-led operations, and rapid response to smuggling and illicit trade activities across the South-West region.

Governor of Ogun State and other senior government officials present at the ceremony described the Gateway International Airport as a game-changing asset that positions the state as a new logistics and investment hub in West Africa. They highlighted its potential to attract multinational businesses, boost agro-export value chains, and stimulate industrial growth across the region.
