The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has successfully mediated and resolved a dispute between Air Peace and Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO), averting what industry stakeholders feared could escalate into a broader operational conflict within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The intervention followed a high-level meeting convened by the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Chris Najomo, at the Aviation House in Lagos on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
The dispute centered on allegations by Air Peace that some of its aircraft components were damaged during ground handling operations, reportedly involving NAHCO personnel. The issue raised concerns around operational safety compliance and the working relationship between airline operators and ground handling service providers.
Regulatory sources indicated that the NCAA stepped in promptly to ensure that the matter did not disrupt flight operations or compromise safety standards. During the meeting, both parties engaged in constructive dialogue, leading to a resolution anchored on mutual understanding and renewed collaboration.
The NCAA emphasized that aviation safety remains paramount and that all industry stakeholders must adhere strictly to established handling procedures and global best practices.
Speaking after the meeting, the NCAA Director of Legal Services and Company Secretary, Mary Tufano-Eche, commended both organizations for their professionalism and willingness to resolve the matter amicably.
She noted that their cooperation reflects a shared responsibility to uphold safety, efficiency, and service delivery standards across the aviation value chain.
Industry analysts say the swift regulatory intervention underscores NCAA’s critical role in maintaining stability and discipline in the sector, particularly at a time when Nigeria’s aviation industry is navigating operational and infrastructure challenges.
The resolution is expected to strengthen collaboration between airlines and ground handling firms, reduce operational risks, and reinforce confidence among passengers and stakeholders.
