In a bold move to revitalize Nigeria’s industrial landscape, the Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, has reaffirmed the federal government’s unwavering commitment to supporting local manufacturers with strategic incentives and policy-driven interventions. This assurance comes as part of the nationwide Industrial Tour, aimed at addressing critical industry challenges and fostering sustainable economic growth.Speaking at Sunflag Nigeria Limited in Lagos during the South West leg of the tour, Enoh highlighted the pressing need to rejuvenate Nigeria’s dwindling textile sector, acknowledging its decline as a major setback for productivity and employment. He assured industry leaders that the Ministry would soon convene a Cotton Textile Garments (CTG) Stakeholders’ Summit to craft pragmatic solutions for revitalizing the sector.
“The Tinubu administration is fully committed to reviving Nigeria’s industries and driving a new era of productivity. We are determined to create an enabling environment for local manufacturers to thrive, as this is key to economic diversification, job creation, and increased global competitiveness,” Enoh stated.
During the three-day tour, the minister, accompanied by technocrats and policy planners, visited industrial powerhouses across Lagos and Ogun States, including GB Foods, Berger Paints, Friesland Campina WAMCO, Mojec Group, TGI, Veenocks Nigeria Limited, Coleman Cables, EPAIL, and Mikano Industries.
Forging a New Industrial Era
Recognizing the resilience of Nigerian businesses amid economic headwinds, Enoh praised their unwavering commitment to growth despite infrastructural and policy-related challenges. He assured them of the government’s plans to streamline business operations through a comprehensive incentive framework tailored to boost industrial productivity.
Key initiatives announced during the tour include:
- The Industrial Revolution Work Group (IRWG): A dedicated task force comprising representatives from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and other key industry players to bridge the gap between policymakers and manufacturers.
- Sector-Specific Support Initiatives: Focus on revitalizing priority industries such as Automotive Manufacturing, Special Agro-Processing Zones (SAPZ), Petrochemicals, Pharmaceuticals, and MSMEs.
- Ease of Doing Business Reforms: Targeted policies to mitigate bureaucratic bottlenecks and stimulate foreign and domestic investments in manufacturing.
Industry Leaders Applaud Government’s Proactive Engagement
Executives of the industries visited lauded the minister’s hands-on leadership approach, describing it as a welcome departure from passive governance. They expressed optimism that the proposed interventions would translate into tangible benefits for manufacturers and stimulate industrial expansion.
With the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda prioritizing local manufacturing and economic self-sufficiency, Enoh’s commitment signals a turning point for Nigeria’s industrial sector, positioning it as a key driver of national economic transformation.
