Minister Festus Keyamo Leads On-the-Spot Facility Tour of MMIA Ahead of Major Facelift Project

In a decisive move to overhaul Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, led an extensive on-the-spot inspection of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos earlier today. The facility tour, conducted alongside top officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), marks a significant step toward an upcoming major facelift aimed at enhancing service delivery, operational efficiency, and passenger experience at Nigeria’s busiest airport.

The minister’s visit underscores the federal government’s commitment to repositioning MMIA as a world-class aviation hub capable of meeting international standards. Speaking during the tour, Keyamo emphasized that the planned upgrade is designed to address longstanding infrastructural challenges, modernize airport operations, and improve security and passenger comfort.

“Our goal is to transform MMIA into a globally competitive airport that reflects Nigeria’s status as a major player in the aviation sector. This project will not only enhance efficiency but also boost investor confidence and position Nigeria as a preferred destination for air travel,” Keyamo stated.Accompanied by FAAN’s leadership, the minister assessed key areas of the airport, including terminals, runways, baggage handling systems, and passenger lounges. The findings from this tour will inform the implementation of the facelift project, which is expected to include state-of-the-art infrastructure, enhanced security protocols, and improved passenger processing systems.
