At the 7th West African Cold Chain Summit and Exhibition (WACCSE 2025), held at the Landmark Conference Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, on March 25, 2025, Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable food security and agricultural transformation. Delivering the keynote address, Senator Abubakar Kyari, Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, underscored the urgency of strengthening the nation’s food systems amid mounting global challenges.

The Minister emphasized that Nigeria’s approach to food security is holistic, addressing not only food availability but also accessibility and nutritional value. He outlined the government’s strategic roadmap, which includes scaling up climate-resilient agriculture, expanding irrigation systems, and enhancing market access for farmers through sustainable agricultural practices.

“Our vision for food security is ambitious and inclusive. We are investing in policies that empower smallholder farmers, drive technological advancements in food production, and enhance supply chain efficiencies,” Senator Kyari stated. He highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives, including the establishment of agro-industrial parks and the deployment of digital technologies to streamline logistics and reduce post-harvest losses.

A key theme of the summit was the role of collaboration in achieving agricultural transformation. The Minister called on stakeholders—government agencies, international partners, and private investors—to work together in driving innovation and ensuring the equitable distribution of food resources.

“This summit is more than just a forum; it is a call to action. By leveraging global expertise and fostering strategic partnerships, we can develop solutions that address the interplay between agriculture, nutrition, and climate change,” he added.

As Nigeria pursues its goal of achieving sustainable food security, the Minister reaffirmed that policies and interventions would be informed by global best practices and cutting-edge research. He expressed confidence that, through coordinated efforts, the country could build an agricultural sector that is not only resilient but also a cornerstone of economic growth.

In closing, Senator Kyari commended participants and organizers for their dedication to advancing the cold chain sector, which plays a crucial role in preserving food quality and reducing waste. “Let us seize this moment to forge new partnerships and create a future where every Nigerian has access to nutritious food, our agriculture thrives, and our economy remains strong and sustainable,” he concluded.

The WACCSE 2025 summit continues to serve as a platform for thought leadership, collaboration, and transformative action, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to food security and economic stability.
