Allen Onyema: Air Peace Boss Redefining Patriotism Through Action

In a time when patriotism appears to be in short supply, Air Peace Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Allen Onyema, has emerged as a rare embodiment of national service, philanthropy, and selflessness. His contributions to the aviation sector and his repeated interventions in national emergencies have earned him widespread recognition as a modern-day symbol of Nigerian unity.

Onyema’s impact on the Nigerian aviation industry is both strategic and far-reaching. Under his leadership, Air Peace has grown into a dominant force on local and international routes. Most recently, the airline’s entry into the competitive London route triggered a sharp drop in ticket prices, compelling other international carriers to reduce fares—ultimately benefiting Nigerian travelers and stimulating fair competition in the market.

While Air Peace has faced occasional service challenges, stakeholders note that such issues are part of the growth trajectory for any airline of its scale. Industry observers remain confident that with sustained commitment, the carrier will continue to improve and expand its operations globally.

However, Onyema’s legacy extends far beyond aviation. He has demonstrated unwavering commitment to national duty through multiple humanitarian interventions that have saved lives and preserved the country’s image on the global stage.

In 2022, Air Peace deployed an aircraft to evacuate Nigerians stranded by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. During the Sudan crisis, the airline once again stepped up, facilitating the evacuation of 277 Nigerians from Egypt. Most recently, 78 Nigerian women, victims of human trafficking, were repatriated from Abidjan in a daring mission sponsored by Onyema.

These consistent acts of compassion and national service have earned Onyema praise across various platforms, including a recent feature on the Arise Morning Show hosted by Dr. Reuben Abati. Commentators on the programme called for the federal government to bestow a national honour on the Air Peace boss for his patriotic deeds.

Many Nigerians believe Onyema deserves one of the country’s highest honours—possibly the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR)—in recognition of his unwavering dedication to the nation.

Beyond business, Allen Onyema represents a brand of patriotism rooted in action, empathy, and an unshakable belief in the unity and potential of Nigeria. His example serves as a powerful reminder that in “brotherhood we stand,” regardless of tribe, tongue, or region.

As the country seeks to rebuild trust, unity, and a sense of national pride, voices like Onyema’s—and actions like his—are needed now more than ever.
