Ethiopian Airlines has announced the launch of a second daily flight from Lagos to Addis Ababa starting July 1, 2025. The move will increase the airline’s weekly frequency to 14 flights and comes with added benefits for Nigerian passengers, including increased baggage allowance and double air miles on select routes.
According to the airline, the expanded flight schedule is designed to enhance connectivity and passenger convenience. The new services will feature two departure slots each day from Lagos: an evening flight at 10:00 p.m. (ET 902), arriving in Addis Ababa at 5:20 a.m., and a morning flight at 5:40 a.m. (ET 904), arriving at 1:00 p.m.
“These extra flights are not just about increasing frequency; they are about improving the overall travel experience for our customers,” said Mrs. Firiehiwot Mekonnen, Ethiopian Airlines’ Area Manager for Nigeria. “We are rewarding our loyal passengers with double air miles and enhanced baggage allowance, particularly for those travelling to destinations such as Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Dubai.”
The airline stated that the additional flights are strategically scheduled to offer seamless connections to more than 140 destinations worldwide. Travelers departing Lagos on the evening or early morning flights will benefit from immediate onward connections to key cities across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. These include Dubai (UAE), Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai (India), Tel Aviv (Israel), Istanbul (Turkey), Rome (Italy), Athens (Greece), São Paulo (Brazil), Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania).
While the existing midday flight remains unchanged, the new morning and evening schedules are expected to provide greater flexibility and shorter overall travel times for passengers.
Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier, has operated in the Nigerian market since 1960 and continues to serve the region with some of the world’s newest aircraft, including the Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
“With this expansion, passengers will enjoy not only more flight options but also a more efficient and comfortable travel experience,” Mekonnen added.
The increased service reaffirms Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to the Nigerian market, offering more competitive travel solutions and enhancing the country’s connectivity to major global cities.
