Nigeria’s leading carrier, Air Peace, has condemned the violent behavior of a prominent Nigerian politician who disrupted operations at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1, Lagos, in the early hours of Wednesday, June 11.
In a strongly worded statement issued by the airline, the incident occurred when the unnamed politician arrived at the Zulu Hall terminal at approximately 6:10 a.m. for Flight P47120 to Abuja. The flight, scheduled for a 6:30 a.m. departure, had already closed its boarding process and departed in line with the airline’s on-time departure policy.
Upon being informed that he had missed the flight, the politician reportedly became aggressive—physically assaulting Air Peace staff and forcibly shutting the terminal entrance. Eyewitness accounts and the airline’s report confirm that he blocked the access gate and prevented other passengers from entering the terminal, causing significant disruption.
“This kind of conduct is unacceptable and grossly inappropriate, especially from a public figure,” the airline stated. “His actions delayed airport operations and inconvenienced multiple travelers scheduled for other flights.”
- To manage the situation and reduce further disruption, Air Peace activated an operational contingency plan. Passengers affected by the blockade were redirected through an alternative terminal to ensure continuity of their travel plans.

The airline expressed deep disappointment that a high-ranking political figure would resort to physical aggression and obstruct public infrastructure, describing the conduct as “unbecoming.”
Air Peace reiterated its strict zero-tolerance policy toward violence or any form of aggression against its staff or passengers, regardless of an individual’s influence or social standing.
“We urge all passengers to remain civil and respectful of aviation protocols. Flight operations are time-sensitive and governed by safety regulations that must be adhered to,” the statement added.
The airline emphasized that it stands firm on its core values of discipline, integrity, and respect for due process, warning that no individual is above these principles.
The identity of the politician involved has not been officially disclosed as of the time of publication.
