As Efcc vows to unravel the syndicates.

Determined to up its game in the fight against currency trafficking and other financial infractions in the country, the Nigerian custom service FOU Zone A have confiscated $20.000 USD and 110.000 West African CFA FRANC, all valued at approximately N30.9 million at seme border.The Controller of the Command, Controller Shaibu disclosed this to newsmen during a brief handover ceremony which took place on July 16th 2025 at its unit conference hall in Ikeja Lagos. According to him the interception took place on Tuesday 8 july 2025 at Seme , a border town between Nigeria and the republic of Benin.
Controller Shaibu further disclosed that the seizures was in line with the provision of the money laundering ( prevention and prohibition) Act 2022 and the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 which mandates the declaration of any currency exceeding $10.000 USD or its equivalent at the country’s borders.
The Controller further commended the dedication of his officers and men and assured that his command remains vigilant and committed in its mission to eradicate smuggling.
In another development the Economic and financial Crime Commission EFCC has vowed to thoroughly investigate the syndicates behind the trafficking with a view to prosecuting those behind it.The anti graft body made this statement while receiving the money from the command. Controller Shaibu assured EFCC that the command will continue to partner with them in their bid to eradicate smuggling and protect the Nigeria economy. .
