Ms. Omolola Oloworaran and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate rollout of free healthcare services for low-income retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), describing it as essential to ensuring dignity in retirement.
The President also ordered the prompt implementation of long-delayed pension increases and the introduction of a minimum pension guarantee for vulnerable retirees.
The directive came after a briefing from the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, at the Presidential Villa.
President Tinubu further instructed PenCom to urgently resolve the long-standing issue surrounding police pensions, stressing that police officers who have served the country deserve to retire with peace of mind and security.
Ms. Oloworaran also briefed the President on ongoing reforms in the pension sector, including efforts to protect the value of pension funds amid inflation and plans to enable foreign currency contributions, allowing Nigerians abroad to join the pension system.
Tinubu expressed strong support for the reforms and reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive economic policies that prioritize the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
“This is about fairness and respect. Our retirees must not be left behind,” the President said.
