The Federal Government has paid the second tranche of the outstanding N35,000 wage award arrears to federal workers.

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) confirmed the payment in a statement on Friday by its spokesperson, Bawa Mokwa, in Abuja.

According to the OAGF, one month’s arrears had earlier been paid out of the five months owed. With this latest payment, three tranches remain.

The office dismissed claims that the government had abandoned the payment, assuring that the arrears would be cleared in monthly instalments of N35,000 until fully settled.

The wage award, introduced to cushion the impact of rising living costs, has drawn criticism from the Nigerian Labour Congress over the slow pace of payment.

This latest disbursement is part of ongoing efforts to meet the government’s promise to workers amid economic pressures.
