The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has renewed its call for mobile phone users across the country to take proactive steps in managing their data usage and safeguarding their online security.
In a consumer protection alert issued on Friday, August 8, the commission advised subscribers to set personal data limits to avoid unexpected charges and better control internet consumption. The message outlined a simple process for Android users: go to “Settings”, select “Network & Internet”, tap “Data Usage”, choose “Data Warning & Limit”, and activate “Set Data Limit” before selecting a preferred threshold.
The NCC also warned against unauthorized access to personal networks, urging consumers to regularly change passwords and turn off mobile hotspots when not in use.
This advisory forms part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to equip Nigerians with practical tips for protecting their privacy, reducing cyber risks, and ensuring fair data usage in an increasingly connected society.
Consumers seeking additional guidance were directed to visit the NCC’s dedicated portal at consumer.ncc.gov.ng.
With data costs rising and online threats becoming more sophisticated, the NCC emphasized that managing data consumption and securing personal networks is now an essential digital survival skill.
