The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced a temporary partial closure of the Lagos Airport access road on Saturday, October 18, 2025, to accommodate the Nigerian Air Force’s annual 10-kilometre fitness walk/jog exercise.

In a public advisory released on Friday, FAAN stated that the exercise would affect the road connecting Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) from 06:00 hours (6:00 a.m.) until the completion of the event later in the morning.

FAAN assured travellers, airport users, and the general public that all scheduled flight operations will continue as normal, emphasizing that the temporary closure will not disrupt air traffic or terminal activities.

“During this period, security personnel will be deployed along the access roads to manage traffic, ensure safety, and provide necessary guidance to motorists,” the statement read.

The Authority added that the access road will be fully reopened immediately after the completion of the exercise, stressing that the measure is temporary and part of efforts to support national security institutions conducting routine fitness and discipline exercises.

FAAN further advised passengers, airline staff, and airport visitors to plan their trips to the airport ahead of time to avoid possible delays caused by the expected localized traffic disruptions around the airport axis during the exercise.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause and appeal for the understanding and cooperation of the travelling public. This activity is in the national interest and aimed at fostering collaboration among aviation stakeholders and security agencies,” FAAN noted.

The Lagos airport corridor remains one of Nigeria’s busiest access routes, handling thousands of daily movements across domestic and international terminals. FAAN’s proactive communication underscores its commitment to maintaining safety, coordination, and transparency in airport operations.

The Nigerian Air Force’s fitness walk, a yearly tradition, forms part of its health and morale-boosting initiatives for officers and personnel nationwide.

FAAN announces a partial closure of Lagos Airport Road on October 18, 2025, as the Nigerian Air Force conducts its annual 10km fitness exercise. The Authority assures passengers that flight operations will remain unaffected while security teams manage traffic and safety throughout the exercise.
