Nigerian Breweries Plc, Nigeria’s leading beverage company and member of the Heineken Group, has successfully completed the 100 per cent integration of Distell Nigeria Limited into its operations, marking a major milestone in its strategic journey to evolve into a Total Beverage Company.
The development follows the company’s full acquisition of Distell Nigeria in March 2025, after initially purchasing an 80 per cent stake in June 2024 with regulatory approval from the South African Reserve Bank. The remaining 20 per cent minority shares were subsequently acquired from Ekulo International and Next International Nigeria Limited, completing the transaction.
Speaking at a media parley in Lagos, Mr. Uzodinma Odenigbo, Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, announced that the company has completed the installation of a state-of-the-art manufacturing line for Distell’s popular brands at its Ibadan Brewery.

“I am pleased to announce that we have now completed the full integration of Distell Nigeria,” Odenigbo said. “We have installed a world-class production facility in our Ibadan Brewery for the local manufacturing of Distell’s wines and spirits, including brands like Chamdor and 4th Street.”
He explained that the successful integration aligns with Nigerian Breweries’ ambition to diversify beyond beer and dominate the broader beverage market. The move now expands the company’s portfolio to include wine, spirits, and ready-to-drink (RTD) products, giving Nigerian consumers more premium choices while deepening the company’s market presence.
According to Odenigbo, the consolidation of Distell’s operations under the Nigerian Breweries umbrella will enhance operational efficiency, reduce import dependency, and support local value creation through job opportunities and supplier engagement.
Industry analysts view this integration as a bold step that positions Nigerian Breweries for stronger competitive advantage in Nigeria’s fast-evolving beverage landscape, particularly as consumer tastes shift toward lifestyle-driven premium and RTD segments.
With this milestone, Nigerian Breweries Plc reaffirms its commitment to innovation, local production, and market leadership, cementing its place not just as a brewer of iconic beers but as Nigeria’s emerging total beverage powerhouse.
